What are we doing?

We are changing the way that the public sector works, helping them improving the regulation for enterprises, so they can focus on doing their job!

When it all comes together and we succeed in combining our competences on business transformation, e-government and administrative burden it is immensely satisfactory and very valuable for the client. Ramboll has done well on administrative burdens for businesses, but I think we can do even better on the next wave of projects of administrative burdens in the public sector

Here is a description of some of the skills our consultants our utilising

  1. IT acumen – by assisting the public sector in defining and costing the savings of e-government initiatives we optimize the public sector to work and communicate digitally. E-government improves the service quality and the release of resources. When digital solutions replace manual solutions the companies do their reporting to the authorities in a much more cost efficient way.
  2. Quantitative and qualitative research methods – Through in-depth analysis we are able to create processes and approaches that can benefit businesses and public sector administration. Instead of routine regulation that attempts to cover all enterprises, we help adopting a risk based approach that targets only the most necessary few. For example only the operators who carry the highest risk of polluting are subject to obligation imposed by regulation implemented for the purpose of reducing the CO2-pollution. Experiences have proved that a risk based approach can help ensuring a significant reduction of the administrative burdens.
  3. Communication - Communicating in a clear way to the companies and supporting them on how to save time on administration is a vital part of the SCM-work. This is mostly done by setting up specific and clear guidelines for the companies so they know exactly how to act when fulfilling an obligation imposed by regulation.
On the large projects using the SCM methodology there is a great opportunity to develop broad consultancy skills. I’ve applied quantitative analysis, developed e-government solutions and been involved in communication strategy development over the course of a single project. I’ve also spend a lot of time on the road interviewing businesses about administrative burdens, which is great fun!

Vasillis Alexandris, Senior Consultant, Belgium
Our vision for the administrative burden-projects is that we want to:
  • help the business community, in particularly the small and medium sized companies, to reduce their administrative burdens so they can concentrate on doing their job.
  • see our work makes a difference - for the companies, for the public sector and for us!
  • create a strong professional setting for our consultants to work within and thereby making an attractive and inspiring workplace
  • use experience and extensive knowledge from a wide range of national projects and use it on an international level.
  • combine our large scale international projects with smaller projects where a high degree of responsibility is delegated to the consultants involved.

”Working together on cross-national teams is a great motivator for me. As part of the project management team on a large EU project, I am dealing with consultants working all over Europe. Exchanging experiences and seeing how things can be done in a different way has challenged my habitual perceptions, improved quality of the work we do and developed me personally. It has also proven good for pursuing market opportunities, without the help from our Danish and Swedish colleagues working on the first projects in Germany, we would not have got off as fast as we did in the German market. We now have more and more Scandinavian German speakers, which bode well for the future"
