Sweden has intensified its focus on simplifying regulations and reducing administrative burdens imposed on Swedish businesses. The objective is to improve market competitiveness.

With help from Rambøll Management, NUTEK, the Swedish Business Development Agency, launched a pilot project focusing on value-added tax (VAT). Later the project was expanded to encompass all tax legislation, after an analysis showed that the tax field in general contained great potential for simplification.

The measurements indicated substantial opportunities to minimise administrative burdens if businesses chose to use digital public services instead such as electronic tax reports and other forms which could be signed and submitted online.

In addition to serving as advisors in this process, NUTEK is responsible for keeping track of the general development of administrative burdens in Sweden.
