In the Paris Declaration on Aid Effectiveness the international community decided to reform the way aid is given, received, and managed. Donors must provide a more coherent and complementary aid, and partner countries must improve national development strategies; strengthen governance, and general knowledge of the politics of aid modalities. Only by focusing on the harmonization of donors and partner countries efficient and aligned progress can be ensured.

The transformation challenge
Aid effectiveness is cross cutting subjects and improved donor coordination faces the gap that often exists between the international policy agenda and daily practical management challenges. Thus this field is closely related to our other core areas, such as public procurement, anti-corruption, and results based monitoring.
